"Come and Knit" Day

Almost 100 people, including children and teenagers, joined a marathon blanket-square “knit-in”.

When the blankets are completed, they will go to the Feed the Children charity and the Kalene Mission Hospital for babies in northern Zambia.

"From 10 am to 3 pm the clicking of 96 pairs of needles could be heard as well as the hum of a very enjoyable social occasion. Refreshments from a younger generation team ensured that workers and observers were properly sustained" said Margaret Gibson who organised the event.

The group now faces sewing-up the 100 plus squares into cot blankets which will then go on their way to the Feed the Children charity and the maternity unit of the Kalene Mission Hospital in northern Zambia. Funds were also raised from the day and these will go towards donations to help the charities with their shipping costs.

Many thanks go to the Knit & Natter group, our catering team, those who donated cakes, those who gave wool (and those who knitted at home) and the furniture shifters.

For more information about the group which meets every other Tuesday afternoon, contact Margaret Gibson 01376 561179.
