Bell Ringing at

St Peter ad Vincula Coggeshall

There is a long history of change ringing in Coggeshall.  Having had two bells added in 2000 (a Millennium Project), the church tower now contains a fine ring of ten bells, giving the church one of the heavier rings in the county.  The bells are rung every Sunday morning prior to the main service and every Wednesday evening for practice. Quarter peals are attempted every month and about four peals are attempted each year.  There is a constant search for new people to join the band and learn the art of ringing.  The tower is popular with visiting bands of ringers.

The Essex Ringing Course, established in 1991, is a three-day course based at the Honywood School.  The bells of the parish church have a pivotal role within the course.  A Ringing School is held in the tower each Saturday morning during term time when ringing is taught to ringers from the local area.  A computer simulator is used for some of the training sessions, thus permitting the bells to be rung without any sound being emitted from the tower.

The tower is a Central Council of Church Bellringers recognised ?Ringing Centre?. For information about the Centre, and the training events it is organising, visit www.eacr.org.uk go to the Training page and click on Rining Centres.

Some of our enthusiastic ringers

The Coggeshall ringers hold an annual meeting early in the new year when the various tower officers are elected; this meeting being chaired by the ringers? president, the Vicar.  The ringers meet for a ?Christmas? dinner early in December and an outing is organised each year.
