Music at St Peter ad Vincula

The Choir

The choir’s role is to lead the congregation in both the singing of hymns and in the sung parts of the 10am Eucharist. Each week, the choir sings a Communion Anthem to suit the theme of the day or the particular Sunday, with an Introit on Feast Days. The choir sings a full Choral Evensong usually on the fourth Sunday of each month at 5.15pm.

Practices for the junior choristers and the full choir are both held in the church on Friday evenings, from 7.00pm onwards, along with a 9.30am practice on Sunday morning and at 4.00pm practice prior to evensong

The choir’s annual events also include social occasions for all of the choir (including juniors) and their families. In the past, these have included summer barbecues, Christmas parties and days out spent visiting (and singing) in various churches in a selected area, along with other social lunches and evenings. The choir also takes part in the annual Dedham & Tey Deanery Choirs Festival, as well as the RSCM diocesan Choirs Festival held in either Brentwood or Chelmsford Cathedral.

If you or your children are interested in joining the Choir, then please do contact the Director of Music, Philip Prior, who will be glad to discuss this with you.
