The Organ |
||
The organ at St Peter ad Vincula was built in 1839 by Bishop, but then rebuilt as a three manual tracker instrument by Holdich in 1874. It suffered during the last war when the Church suffered bomb damage, and when the Church was reconstructed in the old style, the organ was rebuilt by the firm of N P Mander of London in 1959. It was then that the pipework was placed at the West end and the detached console at the South-west corner of the Choir. Although plans for an organ case were drawn up, this was never completed and the organ, which is one of the finest in the diocese, currently has two manuals and pedals and 31 speaking stops. St Peter's Organ Pipework in the West End Tower In 2005 an Organ Appeal was launched to raise £140,000 for a major rebuild including a new East End organ. Click here for more details about the Organ Appeal.
